POEMS FOR THE BRIDE

of

JESUS CHRIST

Thoughts taken from

“The Song of songs, which is Solomon’s”

Introduction

King Solomon wrote this great love Song thousands of years ago when he was king of Israel. It has been preserved as one of the Books in our Holy Bible, and may be interpreted on three levels.

The book can represent God's view of the beauty and sanctity of godly romance and marriage, but we can also see it as an allegory of God's unfailing love for Israel and Israel's love for Him, even when she can't find Him. Although Solomon wrote this Book more than two thousand years before Jesus was born, the message of Jesus' unfailing love for his people is welcome today. Solomon's book is a romantic love story between Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom, and the Bride His purified church.

The following poems are the author's attempt to portray the prophetic message God gave to Solomon to comfort His bride as she awaits her Bridegroom's arrival to take her on their heavenly honeymoon!

Preface

Although King Solomon wrote this Song of songs when he was King of Israel thousands of years ago, some scholars consider it to be the most “sacred” book in our Holy Bible! They believe it sacred because this love story portrays sex and marriage as a sacred and holy communion, but it also reveals the unfailing eternal love which God, the Bridegroom, has for Israel, His beautiful Bride!

But more than two thousand years after King Solomon wrote this Book, a baby called Jesus was born into Solomon's family tree through his father, King David! After Jesus' resurrection, the Holy Spirit fell first upon His Jewish followers, and later fell on some Gentiles also. Because both the Jews and Gentiles had all been baptized by the same Holy Spirit, they later became one spiritual body to become the first Christian church at Antioch! So just as Christian marriage unites a bride and groom making them one in Christ, the Holy Spirit unites all who have been baptized into Christ, whether Jew or Gentile, into one holy sacred body to form His holy, purified Christian church!

The fact that Jesus and Solomon had the same Jewish forefathers gives us insight into Solomon's prophetic wisdom. Without knowing it, his unselfish sexual love story represents not only the everlasting love God has for Israel, but it is also a beautiful prophetic message of His love for today's true Christian church. We are the sinful Bride for whom our Bridegroom died that we might never be separated from His presence.

This author has written a poem after each verse in Solomon's book with her thoughts on what Solomon unknowingly foretold to comfort today's Bride as she awaits her Bridegroom's arrival to take her away on their heavenly honeymoon!

CHAPTER 1

Verse 1:

The Song of songs, which is Solomon's.

King David’s son was Solomon, the wisest of all men,
Son of a sinful union, whose reign had a sinful end.
But God sees not the blight of sin, and through this king of old
He wrote the greatest Song of songs - the love of Christ foretold!

This song, you see, is an end-time song - a song to you and me
To demonstrate God's perfect love, a song to set us free,
Free from guilt and condemnation if we love Jesus now;
He died to take away our sins and make us white as snow.

A song of love which has foretold our marriage to the Lamb;
The Lamb you see is God's own Son, according to His plan,
All we who love Him are His Bride, a Bride He dearly loves,
And helps us live in victory - He's praying from above.

The Bride Speaks of and to her Bridegroom

Verse 2:

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth--
For your love is better than wine.

I’m your lover and I come to bask in heavenly grace,
My eyes are gazing steadfast on the glory of Your face.
Your kiss of love reminds me that You do love me now,
Your Word is like a holy kiss upon my furrowed brow.

Verse 3:

Because of the fragrance of your good ointments,
Your name is ointment poured forth;
Therefore the virgins love you.

My Lord, your Name’s like ointment poured out upon my heart,
A perfume of your purity which joy and love impart.
My Bridegroom royal, I bow down low, and want to thank You for
Your mercy, grace and truth - each day I love You more!

Verse 4:

Draw me away! We will run after you.
The king has brought me into his chambers.
We will be glad and rejoice in you.

We will remember your love more than wine.
Rightly do they love you.

Draw me closer, ever closer, O my Bridegroom dear,
And as I come much closer, Your voice I clearly hear
Telling me about Your love; a love which seems to soar
Above the din of worldly things to help me love You more.

My Love, my Peace, my Saviour - I will rejoice in You,
I'll praise You, thank You, love You; I know You’ll see me through.
Your love is so much better than the very choicest wine,
Your Bride just longs to be with You, enjoying love divine.

Verse 5:

I am dark, but lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
Like the tents of Kedar,
Like the curtains of Solomon.

I’m really dark and sinful, but I’d like to make it known
I've been cleansed and now I'm lovely, fit to bow before Your throne.
I want to thank You Jesus that You died and rose again
To make me righteous, pure and spotless, canceling my sin.

Verse 6:

Do not look upon me, because I am dark,
Because the sun has tanned me.
My mother's sons were angry with me;
They made me the keeper of the vineyards,
But my own vineyard I have not kept.

Others do not always see me as the way I look to You,
You see beyond my sin Lord, thanks for Your heavenly view.
Sometimes Your own believers hurt me as I serve You Lord,
Let me always be most faithful in tending Your ‘vineyard.’

The Straying Bride Speaks to Her True Lover

Verse 7:

Tell me, O you whom I love,
Where you feed your flock,
Where you make it rest at noon.
For why should I be as one who veils herself
By the flocks of your companions?

At times I cannot find You, but from me You never stray;
It is I, dear Shepherd, Saviour, it is I who strays away.
Call me, keep me, feed me in your verdant pastures green,
And protect me from deception following foes unseen.

Daughters of Jerusalem Guide the Straying Bride

Verse 8:

If you do not know, O fairest among women,
Follow in the footsteps of the flock,
And feed your little goats
Beside the shepherds' tents.

When you are lonely and don't know where your Shepherd is
Just follow then the footsteps of the sheep you know are His,
And stay close beside them 'till He makes His presence known
Then He and you together can sing before God's throne.

The Bridegroom Speaks to His Bride

Verse 9:

I have compared you, my love,
To my filly among Pharaoh's chariots.

O My dear, I’ll love you always, I will help you not to stray
Far from My presence; hear My voice, for it's a brand new day.
Feed My children for I love them, help them stay within My fold,
Bring them in to see My glory, bring them all in from the cold.

Verse 10:

Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments,
Your neck with chains of gold.

You've been given many gifts to adorn you, child of mine,
Precious jewels to bring My glory to the lost souls whom you’ll find.
Speak My Word to those around you, help them look into My face,
Tell the nations that I love them; I’m the God who saves by grace.

Verse 11:

We will make you ornaments of gold
With studs of silver.

I’m Creator of you, dearest, I’m three Persons - God of three,
That’s the reason that My Word sometimes says “I” am “We.”
Faith in Me rests in the knowledge that one day we’ll all be one,
One in Spirit, one in purpose, undivided in the Son.

Bride Tells Her Friends About Her Lover

Verse 12:

While the king is at his table,
My spikenard sends forth its fragrance.

We, the Bride of Christ do praise Him, to His table we are called,
Singing songs of fragrant beauty to the One we now call “Lord.”
For He is our Redeemer, and He asks each soul today
To be fragrant like spikenard, sweet to others as we pray.

Verse 13:

A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me,
That lies all night between my breasts.

My Lord is sweet and lovely, His glory's everywhere,
He, my Lover, stays beside me, giving me His tender care.
Like a weaned child I am quiet as I lie upon His breast,
Only there can I find safety, love, and gentle peaceful rest.

Verse 14:

My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blooms
In the vineyards of En Gedi.

Like the vineyards of Engedi is my Lord who loves me so,
Ever, always, ever with me, loves me everywhere I go.
When I speak He grants me wisdom as I look upon His face,
I will happily tell others of His mercy, truth, and grace.

The Bridegroom Comforts His Bride

Verse 15:

Behold, you are fair, my love!
Behold, you are fair!
You have dove's eyes.

You are gentle, sweet and lovely, like a dove your eyes see far,
Now My dear, just listen closely while I tell you who you are:
You are now part of My family, and that makes you like I am,
Do not heed the other voices meant to hurt you or condemn.

The Bride Praises Her Lover

Verse 16:

Behold, you are handsome, my beloved!
Yes, pleasant!
Also our bed is green.

Worthy, worthy are You Lover, praise You gentle Son of God,
Praises, honor, glory, riches – these are what I now applaud,
I can lie with You beside me, knowing there your love for me;
I will praise you now and always - by your mercy I’m set free!

Verse 17:

The beams of our houses are cedar,
And our rafters of fir.

I’m safe within your house of glory, free to worship only You,
A tent enlarged enough to cover all my flaws that you see through.
You and all the saints are praying that I’ll always be quite safe
If I cling to You forever - You who saved me by Your grace.

CHAPTER 2

The Bride Speaks

Verse 1:

I am only a little rose or autumn crocus of the plain of Sharon
or a humble lily of the valley (that grows in deep and difficult places)
(Amplified Version Holy Bible).

I humble myself - I’m like a small flower within the garden of God,
A lily that blooms in the valley of pain where flowers grow in poor sod,
But out of that valley new life springs forth by the gift of my Lover's grace
So though I am small and don't know it all, I see only love on His face.

The Bridegroom Speaks

Verse 2

Like a lily among thorns,
So is my love among the daughters.

I know you are small and must endure pain as thorns always come with the rose,
But never forget you are precious to Me, for you are the one that I chose.
Listen not to the voices around you which say, “You are really only a fraud”,
Just remember, My child, what I think of you: You're a beautiful child of God!

The Bride Speaks

Verse 3:

Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods,
So is my beloved among the sons.
I sat down in his shade with great delight,
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.

My Love's like an apple tree yielding fruit for all nations
His fruit of love, joy, and peace grow there in profusion;
As I sit under His shadow, He provides mercy and rest,
We're so happy together and through Him I am blessed.

The Bride Tells Daughters of Jerusalem about Her Lover

Verse 4:

He brought me to the banqueting house,
And his banner over me was love.

I give thanks for the Word my Lover gives to me to help me find peace and rest,
If I stay close beside Him, the devil can't find me, and then He gives me His best.
He has promised to take me to His house of glory for the greatest feast ever known
I'd like you to meet Him, so come one and all to meet my dear beautiful One!

The Bride Speaks TO Her Lover:

Verse 5:

Sustain me with cakes of raisins,
Refresh me with apples,
For I am lovesick.

I love you so dearly I scarcely can eat, but the food You prepare is all pure,
Your food is the Word which I read every day which gives me strength to endure.
A large banner You’ve placed right over my head – it is a banner of love -
Your love is like raisins to nourish my soul; such love only comes from above.

The Bride Speaks OF Her Lover:

Verse 6:

His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.

He puts His left hand under my head, His right hand holds me tight,
Such loving care with me He shares that it puts the devil to flight.
The gates of hell can never prevail against that great hand of love
Which covers my heart to protect it forever with power from heaven above.

Bridegroom Tells Daughters of Jerusalem about His Bride

Verse 7:

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
By the gazelles or by the does of the field,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.

My Bride is so precious - she finds rest in Me, free from the trap of good works,
She knows that I want to anoint her with love, far from where Satan lurks.
Right now she is resting - she knows very well that I'll be back for her soon,
So please let her rest in My arms to be blessed as her life to Mine I attune.

The Bride Tells Daughters of Jerusalem About Her Lover

Verse 8:

The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes
Leaping upon the mountains,
Skipping upon the hills.

In the distance I am hearing sounds of end-time hoof-beats clear
Bringing all His Bride together with the warning, “Wake up dear.”
He’s been waiting, ever waiting, over mountains soon He’ll leap,
Coming closer, ever closer, soon to sweep us off our feet.

Verse 9:

My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he stands behind our wall;
He is looking through the windows,
Gazing through the lattice.

Behold my Shepherd, O child can’t you see Him? He’s searching for you today,
Merciful, ready, with grace unbounded, desiring with you to stay.
He will forgive you and break down all walls, the walls you have built with your sin,
He longs to come near you and come live inside you; won’t you let Him come in?

Verse 10:

My beloved spoke, and said to me:
"Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.

My Lover spoke to tell me He wants me to be with Him
And leave the world behind me with its vanity and sin.
He told me to rise quickly and spend time with Him alone,
With Him, the Lord of glory, and sit before His throne!

The Bridegroom Speaks to His Beloved Bride

Verses 11-13:

For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away!

I am the Lord of the waiting, yes, I am your Saviour divine,
I've been waiting and waiting and waiting, I've been waiting a very long time,
I've been waiting for you to come and to spend some time with Me,
Come closer, my dear, ever closer, then you'll know that you can be free!

Verse 14:

O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.

My dove, My darling, My loved one - in Me, your Rock, you do dwell;
Speak to your Rock of safety and I'll tell you that all is well.
Speak to Me in your good times as well as in times that are bad,
I’ve paid for your sin and your guilt, so please don’t ever feel sad.

Verse 15:

Catch us the foxes,
the little foxes that spoil the vines,
for our vines have tender grapes.

Take the small foxes, the small little foxes, that is the small little sins,
Smash them down quickly and don’t let them fester before sin greater begins;
Little sins grow quickly but you can’t see them until they have grown very tall,
They'll cause you much sorrow, and by tomorrow they will have stolen your all.

The Bride Speaks to Her Friends

Verse 16:

My beloved is mine, and I am his.
He feeds his flock among the lilies.

My beloved is mine, and I am His, and I want you all to know
He’s my personal Lover, my very own, and He often tells me so!
Tell all the world that each one can know Him in this personal way,
Tell His story and He’ll show them His glory each and every day.

The Bride Speaks to her ‘Absent’ Lover

Verse 17:

Until the day breaks
And the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
Upon the mountains of Bether.

Even though sometimes I feel alone, You can't be far away,
I know You'll always stay with me and that You’ll help me pray
That I will keep my faith real strong and from truth never stray
'Till Your light breaks through the darkness on that great and glorious day!

CHAPTER 3

The Bride Dreams About Her Absent Lover

Verse 1:

By night on my bed I sought the one I love;
I sought him, but I did not find him.

At night I dream about my Love, the Lover of my soul
I dream that He is here with me, then joy does o'er me roll.
Without Him I can find no peace, no solace, joy or rest;
I am waiting for His soon return to lie upon His breast.

The Bride Looks for Her Lover in Worldly Places

Verse 2:

"I will rise now," I said,
"And go about the city;
In the streets and in the squares
I will seek the one I love."
I sought him, but I did not find him.

I have looked for my dear Bridegroom even in the street,
I have searched the world all over but none like Him did meet.
I’ve searched in ivory palaces, in nations great and small
But cannot find Him anywhere; He goes not there at all.

Verse 3:

The watchmen who go about the city found me;
I said,
"Have you seen the one I love?"

I asked the watchmen if they’d seen my Lover passing by
But they were watching their own church not knowing He was nigh.
They did not know my Lover was so very sweet and dear
Nor had they ever heard Him speak with voice so crystal clear.

The Bride Finds Her Lover

Verse 4:

Scarcely had I passed by them,
When I found the one I love.
I held him and would not let him go,
Until I had brought him to the house of my mother,
And into the chamber of her who conceived me.

But as I passed the watchmen I said “Who is this I see?”
Then I knew it was my Lover, and I held Him close to me.
I would not let Him go because you see I love Him so -
I just wanted to tell everyone, for Him they did not know.

I wanted to cling close to Him and go to mother’s home
To introduce her to my Love for I came from her womb.
My faith, you see, came from her home - the land of Israel.
She who conceived me, it is she who’ll ring the wedding bell!

The Bridegroom Speaks to the Daughters of Jerusalem

Verse 5:

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
By the gazelles or by the does of the field,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.

Do not bother to awaken my lovely sleeping Bride,
For she needs rest, she is distressed, she’s lying by My side.
Please calm her for you all well know that rest she must have now
She’s been so hurt by religious folk who misunderstand somehow.

Bride Tells Daughters of Jerusalem How to Know Her True Lover

Verse 6:

Who is this coming out of the wilderness
Like pillars of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all the merchant's fragrant powders?

You’ll know the true Messiah, the One who truly loves you,
He’s no great accolade of man, but One who looks for you..
You’ll recognize Him by His power, His kindness and His grace -
The qualities that a false Lover never can replace.

A Friend of the Bride Answers

Verses 7 and 8:

Behold, it is Solomon's couch,
With sixty valiant men around it,
Of the valiant of Israel.
They all hold swords,
Being expert in war.
Every man has his sword on his thigh
Because of fear in the night.

Dear Bride of Christ, you are His own, you now have access dear,
To come into His presence royal, rejoicing with Him near.
Your resurrected Lamb of God sits on His royal throne
Inside your heart, to win your wars and to protect His own.

Daughters of Jerusalem Speak About the Bridegroom

Verses 9 and 10:

He made its pillars of silver,
Its support of gold,
Its seat of purple,
Its interior paved with love
By the daughters of Jerusalem.

The God of Father Abraham, the true God of the earth
Made for His Son a chariot - to bring to us new birth,
A chariot filled with glory of the presence of the Lord
And named Him “Holy Spirit” of the everlasting God.

His Word is made of silver, our faith is solid gold
Refined in God’s own furnace to bring glory to the world.
The seat of God’s own chariot is purple (red and blue)
Christ’s righteousness and holiness is now for me and you.

We are daughters of His too, we join you late in time
But we are here to teach the Word, and speak His love divine.
His glory rests on Israel, Jerusalem is His throne,
He’s coming back to our dear land which is His very own.

The Bride Encourages the Daughters of Zion

Verse 11:

Go forth, O daughters of Zion,
And see King Solomon with the crown
With which his mother crowned him
On the day of his wedding,
The day of the gladness of his heart.

O come, O come Jerusalem, O come and don’t you see
That Jesus Christ is your Messiah, come to set you free?
Israel, you’re the mother of our Christ, Messiah, Lord,
The One who planned His wedding to turn water into blood.

It will be you, O Israel, who’ll crown Him Lord and King
And we who are the grafted saints will join with you and sing -
We’ll sing forever to the Lamb who was for sinners slain
And we shall all be one in Him when He comes back to reign.

CHAPTER 4

Bridegroom to His Bride

Verse 1:

Behold, you are fair, my love!
Behold, you are fair!
You have dove's eyes behind your veil.
Your hair is like a flock of goats,
Going down from Mount Gilead.

You are fair, you are lovely, look not upon your sin,
Remember that I died for you to make you pure within;
You’re forgiven, pure and holy, you are beautiful to Me,
I find no fault within you, you are blessed and you are free.

Your eyes, like doves, are gentle, very kind and filled with love,
Your hair your crowning glory, like My glory from above.
You are My Bride, My church, I love each one of you,
And I promise I’ll not leave you when each trial you pass through.

Verse 2:

Your teeth are like a flock of shorn sheep
Which have come up from the washing,
Every one of which bears twins,
And none is barren among them.

My Word you’ve eaten often to feed your starving soul,
You’ve meditated on it, and it’s made you beautiful.
You are an overcomer as you speak forth my Word –
You are an overcomer by My Name and by My blood.

Verse 3:

Your lips are like a strand of scarlet,
And your mouth is lovely.
Your temples behind your veil
Are like a piece of pomegranate.

Just keep on speaking of Me, I anoint your lips with fire
To tell the world my story; I will see you never tire.
Just keep your lips anointed and then the world will know
That you are Mine and I am yours - My dear, I love you so!

Keep the helmet of salvation firmly fastened on your head,
To protect your mind from Satan’s lies; just think on Me instead,
The world can offer nothing, dear – can’t give eternal life,
For I alone have made the Way for you to be My Wife.

Verse 4:

Your neck is like the tower of David,
Built for an armory,
On which hang a thousand bucklers,
All shields of mighty men.

Your neck, My dear, is like a tower to help you see My face,
Turn it upward, ever upward, to learn you’re saved by grace.
Look up to the throne-room, the throne-room of your King
Come up closer now, My child, I love to hear you sing.

Verse 5:

Your two breasts are like two fawns,
Twins of a gazelle,
Which feed among the lilies.

Many will be nourished as I lie between your breasts;
The world is hungry for My Word, please tell about My rest,
About My second coming to take you home with Me,
Your breasts give hope and nourishment with milk to set men free.

Verse 6:

Until the day breaks
And the shadows flee away,
I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh
And to the hill of frankincense.

Come up higher to Me now, give Me ceaseless praise
I’m waiting there each day for you to hear your voices raise,
Your prayers are holy incense rising upward to My throne,
As you pray, you join with Me; you are My very own.

Verse 7:

You are all fair, my love,
And there is no spot in you.

How beautiful you are, My love, you’re beautiful to Me,
I’ve made you fair and lovely, for all the world to see.
My eyes are flaming fire to look inside of you
I see no spot or blemish for I have purged you through.

Verse 8:

Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse,
With me from Lebanon.
Look from the top of Amana,
From the top of Senir and Hermon,
From the lions' dens,
From the mountains of the leopards.

Depart now from the mountain top, and do not be afraid,
For I’ll watch over you, dear child, I’ll always give you aid.
There’s time to labor, time to grow, and work in My vineyard,
So fear no evil - I’m with you although the work is hard.

Yes, come on down, there’s work to do, and many souls to save,
Without Me they are perishing, their end is a cold grave.
Come on outside your church, My love, come on out on the street,
For there are many lost souls there I know that you will meet.

Many in My church today just want to stay with Me;
They only want the blessings that I give them, all for free!
They love their money, love their fame, and ask I give them more,
They don’t seem to understand I love them as they are.

I am your Shepherd and I tell you I will guide you on
I will help you to be happy and you can sing a song -
A song of celebration shall rise from you to Me,
A song of joy and gladness, a song to set men free.

Verse 9:

You have ravished my heart,
My sister, my spouse;
You have ravished my heart
With one look of your eyes,
With one link of your necklace.

Although you often don’t have time to spend down at My feet
I yearn for you, I wait for you, for fellowship so sweet.
It seems so strange that you do always have to find the time
To spend with Me, the King of kings, knowing who I AM!

For I am so in love My dear, I know you are My spouse
Preparing to come live with Me in My eternal house.
My heart is ravished when I stop and look into your eyes
You'll be a special jewel to Me in My new Paradise.

Verse 10:

How fair is your love,
My sister, my spouse!
How much better than wine is your love,
And the scent of your perfumes
Than all spices!

I love to hear the praises of My Bride down through the ages,
Coming up to Me and sung by all the nations of the earth,
Like sweet perfume arising are those sacrifices to Me,
I can hear the Hallelujahs sung by all who’ve had new birth.

Verse 11:

Your lips, O my spouse,
Drip as the honeycomb;
Honey and milk are under your tongue;
And the fragrance of your garments
Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

Because you are created in an image just like Mine
The words you speak are sweet and filled with love divine.
They’re words to pierce the heart like words that I would say,
They’re words filled with My power to make all hell go ‘way!

Verse 12:

A garden enclosed
Is my sister, my spouse,
A spring shut up,
A fountain sealed.

You are a garden filled with My love,
You've a great love to heal the world,
Like a spring shut up just waiting to flow
You’re a fountain of love that is sealed.

Verses 13-15:

Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates
With pleasant fruits,
Fragrant henna with spikenard,
Spikenard and saffron,
Calamus and cinnamon,
With all trees of frankincense,
Myrrh and aloes,
With all the chief spices--
A fountain of gardens,
A well of living waters,
And streams from Lebanon.

There’s work to be done in the garden which I planted
So I've chosen you to show My love to all the earth.
You are so very precious and you have so many talents
To spread the gospel message and help others find new birth.

Verse 16:

Awake, O north wind,
And come, O south!
Blow upon my garden,
That its spices may flow out.
Let my beloved come to his garden
And eat its pleasant fruits.

I will blow the wind of My own Spirit out upon My garden
The garden I’ve ordained that you, my Bride, should till,
Though many fail and falter, I’ll be with you in My garden,
I’ll guide you and I’ll aid you ‘till all My harvest’s in.

CHAPTER 5

The Bridegroom Speaks to the Bride and Her Friends

Verse 1:

I have come to my garden, my sister, my spouse;
I have gathered my myrrh with my spice;
I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey;
I have drunk my wine with my milk.
Eat, O friends!
Drink, yes, drink deeply,
O beloved ones!

All you who labor in My vineyard I will truly bless,
You’ve been chosen for this hour, and I now you caress.
I’ve poured My Spirit out on you to make you clean and holy,
It’s not to keep - please pour it out upon the poor and lowly.

My body is a vine providing grapes for the whole earth,
The wine that they produced is My blood and second birth
Drink, My people, drink the wine to set your spirit free,
Drink the milk of My true Word and the blood of Calvary.

The Bride Listens to the Voice of Her Shepherd

Verse 2:

I sleep, but my heart is awake;
It is the voice of my beloved!
He knocks, saying,
"Open for me, my sister, my love,
My dove, my perfect one;
For my head is covered with dew,
My locks with the drops of the night."

I hear my Lover knocking on the door outside my heart,
He’s calling, calling, calling, and wanting to impart
His love, His peace, and all His joy. He wants to give to me
His life, and asks that I give mine to Him to oversee.

It’s not that He would want to change the very things I choose,
He’s given me my own free choice of what I want to do.
But He loves me so very much I choose to let Him in,
He has even made the offer to take away my sin!

Bride Thinks of Excuses!

Verse 3:

I have taken off my robe;
How can I put it on again?
I have washed my feet;
How can I defile them?

But I feel tired and I don‘t want to give my all right now
Or open up my heart to Him even though I love Him so.
I just want to run my life and do just what I want,
I don’t want to change my ways, and work for Him I can’t!

Bride Explains How Jesus Changed Her Attitude

Verse 4:

My beloved put his hand
By the latch of the door,
And my heart yearned for him.

Then my Lover put his finger in the keyhole of my heart
And suddenly my heart was changed, and love began to start.
I realized His love for me was deep and very real,
I decided then to let Him in as He my heart did steal.

Verse 5:

I arose to open for my beloved,
And my hands dripped with myrrh,
My fingers with liquid myrrh,
On the handles of the lock.

When I opened up my heart, He took me for His own,
Love of self departed and my heart became His throne.
Since that day I love His ways and now I am undone -
He is mine and I am His - the victory has been won!

The Bride's Lover Disappears

Verse 6:

I opened for my beloved,
But my beloved had turned away and was gone.
My heart leaped up when he spoke.
I sought him, but I could not find him;
I called him, but he gave me no answer.

But as I thought that all was well, He did not answer me,
I prayed and prayed, but heard no Word as I bent down my knee.
I had not come when He first called, and He had gone away,
When He was there to tell me what I need do on that day.

Religious Crowd Takes Advantage

Verse 7:

The watchmen who went about the city found me.
They struck me, they wounded me;
The keepers of the walls
Took my veil away from me.

The keepers of the city wells, the famed religious crowd
Took advantage of my weakness and spoke out very loud.
My tardiness in answering Him had caused God’s walls to fall,
And left me unprotected from harsh words and protocol.

Bride Asks Daughters of Jerusalem to Help Find Him

Verse 8:

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
If you find my beloved,
That you tell him I am lovesick!

I feel sad, so very sad, O Jewish friends of mine,
I only want to weep and cry, and for myself to pine.
I miss my Lover very much, so please do help me find Him,
For He is mine, and I am His, our love is very binding!

Daughters of Jerusalem Respond

Verse 9:

What is your beloved
More than another beloved,
O fairest among women?
What is your beloved
More than another beloved,
That you so charge us?

We await for our Messiah, we don’t really know
Who this Jesus Christ is - the One to whom you bow?
So how can we find him, dear, for we can’t tell the difference -
We await Messiah, but to Christ you show your preference?

Bride Explains Her Bridegroom’s Identity

Verse 10:

My beloved is white and ruddy,
Chief among ten thousand.

My Lover is the Chief of love, the fairest of ten thousand,
He’s pure and holy, without fault, and not subject to falling.
The world knows not His beauty or holiness sublime,
For He is your Messiah too, the Christ who’s also mine!

Verse 11:

His head is like the finest gold;
His locks are wavy,
And black as a raven.

My Lover’s head is like pure gold, His holiness defined,
His hair is black and won’t turn gray, for He lives for all time.
They didn’t know that when the crown they placed upon His head
That crown would crown Him King and Lord of everyone instead.

Verse 12:

His eyes are like doves
By the rivers of waters,
Washed with milk,
And fitly set.

My Lover's eyes are gentle like the eyes of a young dove
Revealing His true nature – a nature filled with love.
The source of peace and joy, so gentle and so mild,
He is my Living Water, so pure and undefiled.

Verse 13:

His cheeks are like a bed of spices,
Banks of scented herbs.
His lips are lilies,
Dripping liquid myrrh.

The face of my dear Lover is now filled with glorious light
It is now a bed of spices, not like it was that night
When open-wounded bleeding shed blood for you and me.
Now all I see is His holy face of glorified liberty.

Verse 14:

His hands are rods of gold
Set with beryl.
His body is carved ivory
Inlaid with sapphires.

The Spirit of my risen Lord’s now present everywhere,
Like ivory overlaid with jewels - there’s none that can compare.
His pierced hands have shown me that humbly I must live -
His golden hands of glory hold me in His resurrection love.

Verse 15:

His legs are pillars of marble
Set on bases of fine gold.
His countenance is like Lebanon,
Excellent as the cedars.

My Lover’s legs are strong enough to crush all worldly power
Which will rise up to try to stop His kingdom in this hour.
I keep my eyes now firmly fixed on His most gracious face,
Remembering each and every day He saved me by His grace.

The Bride Tells the Daughters of Jerusalem about Her Lover

Verse 16:

His mouth is most sweet,
Yes, he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved,
And this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem!

My Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is my chief Love, you see,
If you get to know Him better, I’m sure you’ll all agree
He speaks sweet words of Spirit’s fire announcing to the earth
That He loves you Jerusalem, and will give to you new birth.

CHAPTER 6

Daughters of Jerusalem Want to Know Jesus

Verse 1:

Where has your beloved gone,
O fairest among women?
Where has your beloved turned aside,
That we may seek him with you?

Where has your beloved gone? We want to look with you
We would like to help you find Him that He be our Lover too!
Your Jesus Christ, anointed One - you say He'll soon return?
And He is our Messiah too? Well for this we Jews do yearn.

Bride Replies to Daughters of Jerusalem

Verse 2:

My beloved has gone to his garden,
To the beds of spices,
To feed his flock in the gardens,
And to gather lilies.

My Lover, Jesus Christ and Lord, is on a world-wide mission
To feed the flocks of those who do not know His risen condition.
His gardens are the mission fields, His lilies precious souls,
Who need to hear the message which was long ago foretold.

Verse 3:

I am my beloved's,
And my beloved is mine.n
He feeds his flock among the lilies.

Because I am the Bride of Christ I'm called to help Him feed
The multitude of countless souls to whom He will me lead.
I feed real bread, but the Word of God is food they need to eat,
I'll not neglect my duty then – I'll help Him feed His sheep.

King Jesus Praises His Bride

Verse 4:

O my love, you are as beautiful as Tirzah,
Lovely as Jerusalem,
Awesome as an army with banners!

My Bride, my Bride, you’re beautiful,
You’re gentle as a dove.
The power and might I’ve given you
Conquers all with love.

Verse 5:

Turn your eyes away from me,
For they have overcome me.
Your hair is like a flock of goats
Going down from Gilead.

You have overcome Me with your gaze which speaks of love
Now you know that I do love you, a love that’s from above.
Your hair which is so beautiful is to me your crowing glory.
My love for you will never fail; that is My age-long story.

Verse 6:

Your teeth are like a flock of sheep
Which have come up from the washing;
Every one bears twins,
And none is barren among them.

It’s up to you to speak for Me with mouth that’s pure and clean,
For when you do, My Word goes forth with nothing said that’s mean.
For what you say each day, My dear, like a ripple in a sea,
It travels far beyond itself and touches even Me!

I love you, dear, you speak good words, you chew them over well,
They always bless and never curse, not saying farewell
To My dear folks who’ve been abused, who are harassed and shaken,
You speak in love, and only love, which shows the care you've taken.

Verse 7:

Like a piece of pomegranate
Are your temples behind your veil.

Your helmet of salvation’s fastened tightly on your head,
Protecting you from every word the devil's ever said.
The lovely thoughts you keep inside are sweet like pomegranate,
Veiled in a love compartment far away from thoughts of hate.

Verse 8:

There are sixty queens
And eighty concubines,
And virgins without number.

I have many, many chosen, destined for the wedding feast,
Until I come, they’re being dressed, prepared from great to least -
Some are queens already, quite prepared for that great day
But some virgins are attached to earth and ponder My delay.

Concubines are many, some who do not know Me yet,
They THINK they know me but they don't, their minds already set,
They are the reason that I wait, and wait, and still do wait
For them to come into My house. That's why I'm running late!

Verse 9:

My dove, my perfect one,
Is the only one,
The only one of her mother,
The favorite of the one who bore her.
The daughters saw her
And called her blessed,
The queens and the concubines,
And they praised her.

You’re My dove, My perfect one, My holy, blameless Bride
Your mother came from Israel, from My broken, wounded side.
Queens, virgins, and some concubines will join to worship Me
When they see I'm Christ/Messiah come to set the whole world free!

Daughters of Jerusalem Praise the Bride

Verse 10:

Who is she who looks forth as the morning,
Fair as the moon,
Clear as the sun,
Awesome as an army with banners?

We don't understand your faith which sounds like our faith too,
If what you tell us is correct, then we'll follow Christ with you.
Could He be the coming King whom our prophets have foretold?
If He is, then what they wrote is to us a gift of gold!

We see your Christ lives in you, so we know it must be true,
His glory's shining from your face, and you He does renew.
We can be an army joined together, marching under flags of love
Sweeping over all the world, our Head the heavenly Dove.

Verse 11:

I went down to the garden of nuts
To see the verdure of the valley,
To see whether the vine had budded
And the pomegranates had bloomed.

We have watched you often as the years have come and gone,
Wondering what the future holds for the Bride of God’s own Son.
A good tree always bears good fruit, gifts to nourish others,
Your fruit is how we know that we must be your mother!

Verse 12:

Before I was even aware,
My soul had made me
As the chariots of my noble people.

We did not know that Christendom came from Jewish roots
Now that we know, we will gladly share the message of this truth,
For we are God's own chariots to speak to every nation
About the soon return of Christ to build His glorious kingdom!

Verse 13:

Return, return, O Shulamite;
Return, return, that we may look upon you!
What would you see in the Shulamite--
As it were, the dance of the two camps?

Come forth in glory, come forth in power,
We now known you’re chosen for this hour.
We want to join hands and dance with you
Now that we see you're Messiah's Bride too.

CHAPTER 7

Daughters of Jerusalem Compliment Bride

Verse 1:

How beautiful are your feet in sandals,
O prince's daughter!
The curves of your thighs are like jewels,
The work of the hands of a skillful workman.

How beautiful are your feet which take the gospel ‘round the globe
Shod with peace to tell, with love, the greatest story ever told.
Your body is a temple pure to house the triune Godhead,
For we now see your doctrine's true, and by God’s Spirit led.

Verse 2:

Your navel is a rounded goblet;
It lacks no blended beverage.
Your waist is a heap of wheat
Set about with lilies.

You're securely fused to Jesus Christ - you are very blessed -
He gives you strength to feed the poor, to strengthen the oppressed.
His Word is pure, like lilies white, to keep your mind untouched
By thought or deed which would disturb and cause you much unrest.

Verse 3:

Your two breasts are like two fawns,
Twins of a gazelle.

Your breasts are symbols of the Word with milk of love to feed
A hungry world, a starving world - they are so much in need.
We too would like to learn God's Word that we may help you to
Spread this news around the world, we now know it is true!

Verse 4:

Your neck is like an ivory tower,
Your eyes like the pools in Heshbon
By the gate of Bath Rabbim.
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon
Which looks toward Damascus.

Your neck is like a strong high tower broadcasting through the air,
You often weep for others as you intercede in prayer.
You discern the work of evil and can smell the devil's schemes,
O Bride of Christ, we love you dear, more each day it seems.

Verse 5:

Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel,
And the hair of your head is like purple;
A king is held captive by your tresses.

Your head is filled with prophecy - stir up that gift my dear!
Just as Elijah tested Baal to prove his God was near.
Your hair as purple speaks of Christ’s blood shed for you and me,
He’s now a King who looks at you and sees a queen’s beauty.

Jesus, the Bridegroom, Praises His Lover

Verse 6:

How fair and how pleasant you are,
O love, with your delights!

O Bride, most dear, I cannot say how much you mean to Me,
You are so pleasant and so fair - I want the world to see
My pride in you. My righteousness has now become your right.
My lover dear, when you are near, you give Me sweet delight.

Verse 7:

This stature of yours is like a palm tree,
And your breasts like its clusters.

Like tall palm trees you stand above the darkness all around,
In you, my dear, no evil power I see there to be found.
Your breasts pour forth the wine of love to all the weak and bruised
The wine's My blood, My power in you, to rescue the abused.

Verse 8:

I said, "I will go up to the palm tree,
I will take hold of its branches."
Let now your breasts be like clusters of the vine,
The fragrance of your breath like apples,

Because you’re like a tall palm tree, you give shade to others
When My own words you speak, you're blessing many brothers,
Your breasts supply the milk of power, a power that's only Mine
To break the chains of darkness and discern what is divine.

Bride to Bridegroom

Verse 9:

And the roof of your mouth like the best wine.
The wine goes down smoothly for my beloved,
Moving gently the lips of sleepers.

The Word You speak is from above, and always very wise,
It heals all wounds and teaches me I need no longer strive
To do what’s right. You’ve paid it all, my sin and guilt You’ve taken
Upon Your cross, so now I'm free - my past gone and forsaken!

Verse 10:

I am my beloved's,
And his desire is toward me.

I’m preparing to be beautiful, I'm cleaning up my mind,
I'm so happy that You love me, and pray You'll always find
My love to bless and honor You - my loyal, kindly King
For I will be a Queen one day, and with You I will reign!

Verse 11:

Come, my beloved,
Let us go forth to the field;
Let us lodge in the villages

But now I’m here to harvest souls, to serve You night and day
Just send me where You want me, Lord, and there I’ll gladly stay.
If you go with me, I will go through fire, o’er land and sea
I’ll preach and teach and do Your will to set the people free.

Verse 12:

Let us get up early to the vineyards;
Let us see if the vine has budded,
Whether the grape blossoms are open,
And the pomegranates are in bloom.
There I will give you my love.

So let’s make haste, the time is late, the signs are everywhere
That You will soon return to take Your Bride up in the air
To be with You, to become like You, and not as other men;
We know not when, but You have said You’re coming back again.

Verse 13:

The mandrakes give off a fragrance,
And at our gates are pleasant fruits,
All manner, new and old,
Which I have laid up for you, my beloved

My calling’s like a vineyard, sweet-smelling to the lost,
To those who sense Your power and love and know what it has cost.
Anything I do for you, my Lord and Lover true,
Is only done for Your dear sake - the glory’s all to You!

CHAPTER 8

Bride Speaks to Her Lover

Verse 1:

Oh, that you were like my brother,
Who nursed at my mother's breasts!
If I should find you outside,
I would kiss you;
I would not be despised.

Because You’re now a Spirit, Lord, You seem so far away,
I sometimes wish You still lived here as You did one distant day,
Then I could touch your human hands and know that You are here,
But now You are My risen Lord, Your Spirit’s everywhere!

Verse 2:

I would lead you and bring you
Into the house of my mother,
She who used to instruct me.
I would cause you to drink of spiced wine,
Of the juice of my pomegranate.

Lord Jesus, let us take a look into the land which birthed me
Whose prophets had told Your plan of glorious liberty;
All they wrote about You has come to pass as written,
Little wonder that Your Bride today is so love-smitten!

Verse 3:

His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.

The Bible says He is above, before and under me
Behind, beside, and all around – His glory I can see!
If I forget You love me, I stop and say a prayer,
And very quickly I’m assured that You are really there.

Bridegroom to Daughters of Jerusalem

Verse 4:

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.

Because these are the end-times, My Bride needs extra comfort,
I know you wish to help her, but only I can do that.
I’m asking you to pray for her and leave the rest to Me
For only I am able to comfort her you see.

A Relative Sees the Bride and Her Lover

Verse 5:

Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
Leaning upon her beloved?
I awakened you under the apple tree.
There your mother brought you forth;
There she who bore you brought you forth.

Out of the wilderness I see a people all shining, pure, and white
They come with their Lover, leaning on Him, into His glorious Light,
From every nation, from lowest to highest, all with the banner of love -
Love for their Bridegroom, love for each other, love which comes from above.

Bride Speaks to Lover

Verse 6:

Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,
Jealousy as cruel as the grave;
Its flames are flames of fire,
A most vehement flame.

O Lord, my Savior, my Christ and my God, please seal me to Your heart ,
A seal on Your arm, a seal on Your hand, then I'll know we'll never part.,
Cut me free from the world's self-love and pride, free from its fame and its glory;
I am your Bride, keep me faithful and true, free to tell others our story!

Verse 7:

Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor can the floods drown it.
If a man would give for love
All the wealth of his house,
It would be utterly despised.

Your love, O Christ, is greater than the human mind can know,
The love of man is changing and can often come and go.
But the love which comes from heaven is not like human love -
Your love has mercy, grace, and peace, it's gentle as a dove.

Bride and her Brothers’ Concern for Immature Sister

Verse 8:

We have a little sister,
And she has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
In the day when she is spoken for?

Many are the virgins who are destined for the throne
To whom God’s angels minister, but are not yet fully grown
They have no godly wisdom to guide and help the weak,
For they themselves must yet mature, the Holy Spirit seek.

Bride Gives Advice to Take Care of Weak Sister

Verse 9:

If she is a wall,
We will build upon her
A battlement of silver;
And if she is a door,
We will enclose her
With boards of cedar.

My sister is weak, like so many others within the body of Christ,
Cherish her, love her, and help her along 'till she’s ready to be Jesus' Wife.
Many churches are lifeless, drowning in sin, but especially lacking in love,
So please teach God’s Word and help them to find the Way to heaven above.

Bride Speaks of Self

Verse 10:

I am a wall,
And my breasts like towers;
Then I became in his eyes
As one who found peace

The one thing I need is to have a strong will to keep pride and the devil away,
I submit to my God, I resist evil powers, and in this state I must stay.
My breasts are like fountains that pour out good food to feed all those whom I meet;
The food is my Lover’s love for the sinner, a weapon no one can defeat!

Bride Tells of Lover’s Vineyard

Verse 11:

Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon;
He leased the vineyard to keepers;
Everyone was to bring for its fruit
A thousand silver coins.

My Lover has a vineyard, a place of restoration, a place where there is rest,
Good gifts of the Spirit grow there in profusion; and many there are blessed.
We bring to Him one-tenth of our substance, a thank-offering cheerily given,
Then from His vineyard He meets all our needs, and all the blessings of heaven.

Bride Tells About Her Own Vineyard

Verse 12:

My own vineyard is before me.
You, O Solomon, may have a thousand,
And those who tend its fruit two hundred.

My Lover gave to me, His Bride, a large vineyard to tend
It's not my own but He promised that this to me he'd lend;
To tell the nations of His love, my weaker sisters learning
Love is the key to knowing Him, not by my good deeds earning.

Lover’s Advice

Verse 13:

You who dwell in the gardens,
The companions listen for your voice--
Let me hear it!

I’ve made you all one body, I’ve made you all one Spirit,
Rejoice and praise Me now in one accord.
I love to hear your praise as one voice to Me you raise –
When you all unite as one and call me “Lord.”

Bride Says: “Come Lord Jesus”

Verse 14:

Make haste, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
On the mountains of spices.

A clarion call resounds throughout the nations of this earth
To bring us all together - those who’ve had new birth;
The call is coming to us from around His throne of grace,
Yet many will refuse to come to His great wedding feast.

But all are welcome to take part, from the greatest to the least
Everyone will join with us from west unto the east
As we sing praises to Him, other faiths don’t understand
How the Bride can be so happy with such troubles in the land.

We are happy since He's given us a peace within our heart,
Our Lover gives us comfort as the nations fall apart,
His righteousness He gave to us – it is our royal dress,
A robe of His own glory covering sin and nakedness.

Rewards are great for all who choose to be His lover true
He wants to say, “Come one, come all, I welcome all of you.”
It was for sinners that He sent His one and only Son
We hear the Spirit and the Bride say, “Come Lord Jesus, come.”
