The
Importance of Christmas and Easter
At times, we all feel guilty and ashamed of something we have said or done. King David who had committed both adultery and murder knew how it felt to feel the remorse of sin. As he struggled with shame because of what he had done, he prayed, “Let me never be ashamed.”
But it is interesting that David then prayed, “Deliver me in YOUR righteousness.”
King David lived many years before Jesus was born, yet his cry to the Lord to deliver Him from shame with GOD’s righteousness was really a cry to the living Christ who rose from the grave hundreds of years later. He knew even then that only God’s own righteousness could remove the shame of his adultery and murder. There was nothing he could do about it except ask God to deliver him. And He did!
David’s experience was a foretelling of Christ’s provision of forgiveness. Christmas represents our spiritual birth and Easter represents our deliverance from sin with its ensuing guilt and shame. If we repent as did King
David, we can exchange our shortcomings for Christ’s goodness, for HIS righteousness. This provision of forgiveness is the reason that Christmas and Easter are such important Christian celebrations!
