For many years, it sat in the cupboard. I hadn't bothered to use it although I always knew it was very useful and very beautiful. Finally, one day I got it out, polished it, and discovered that if I put hot water in it, it did indeed keep the buns warm!
Christians are a bit like this when they think about the blood of Jesus shed for them at Calvary. They know their faith rests on this act of the shedding of blood, but few have found a use for it.
It was not until I had witnessed a lady being set free from the demonic power of witchcraft that I knew the power of the name "Jesus" and the word "blood" when spoken by a strong Christian. As the Satanic power was challenged, this lady was torn between the two worlds, but then Jesus won the victory. But it was the words "the blood of Jesus" repeated over and over which brought the final release.
Great Christian revivals have always begun when a few people have discovered and used the power at their disposal.
Many people today have begun occult practices because they have discovered there is power at their disposal, but they are unaware that this power is not of God. They may speak of getting rid of evil, but they are actually trying to get rid of Christianity. Occultic power, unchallenged, can do just that!
Only by returning to our Christian heritage will we be able to be "overcomers" of the sin of these end-times; our work and our testimony will be effective only to the extent that we know and confess this. The Bible puts it this way, "and they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony" (Rev 12:11).
It is essential that Christians rediscover the power in the blood of Jesus. In a day as irreligious as ours, people have difficulty believing in the existence of an all-powerful God, let alone the existence of a real devil. However, as we connect the work of the evil one to the increase of wickedness ranging all the way from psychic phenomena to moral aberrations - crime, lust, suicide, wars, homosexuality, fear, anxiety, disease, drug and alcohol addition - we can see the following prophecy happening today:
"In the last days it is going to be very difficult to be a Christian. For people will love only themselves and their money, they will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them, and thoroughly bad. They will be hardheaded and never give in to others; they will be constant liars and troublemakers and will think nothing of immorality. They will be rough and cruel, and sneer at those who try to be good. They will betray their friends, they will be hot-headed, puffed up with pride and prefer good times to worshipping God. They will go to church, yes, but they won't really believe anything they hear" (2 Tim 3:1-5 LB).
Some churches have done away with hymns and teaching about the blood in case people become offended, but such failure to teach about it has allowed demonic activity to gain a foothold in our Christian land. When Christianity is strong, the power in witchcraft is broken as Christians praise the name of Jesus and sing hymns about His blood.
We received a gift when Jesus died at Calvary to eradicate the evil world with its occultism, false cults and doctrines of demons.
As I found the value of my silver bun-warmer by using it, we can begin using the blood bank Jesus left us and rediscover the power of God available to conquer the powers of darkness.
