When I Feel Hurt

I used to get so very hurt when others put me down,
I used to cry and feel so sad and often wear a frown.
I'd feel so very sorry that my friends should treat me so,
I didn't feel I'd ever cope with troubles here below.

But then one day I realized the world is full of sin,
That any happiness I'd ever own would have to be within.
I'd have to learn to live with "me" where others could not touch
For there my Lord would always come to help and love me much.

I learned that when I come to Him He'll give me all I ask,
He'll give me strength, encourage me, for each and every task.
He'll even help me love the one who hurt and cut my heart,
He'll mend a broken friendship, and peace He will impart.

The stripes my Saviour had to wear upon His bleeding back
Are stripes that I must suffer too when people me attack.
But blood that's shed for others' good can heal and bring me peace.
If in my heart I choose to love, there soon will come release.

So now when others put me down, I think of Jesus' life,
And know my selfishness must go to put an end to strife.
If others I shall win to Him, I'll love them much, you see,
And hand them all to Jesus who lived and died for me.

For Jesus is the answer for my every earthly pain,
He'll show me who I am in Him that healing I can gain.
I'll love myself as He loves me, and seek Him more you see,
For He has died my sins to take; I am redeemed and free.
