The Empty Cross

An empty cross stands high above
The churches in our lamd,
A symbol of God's conquering power
And overcoming hand.

Yet man still fails to seek that power
And wields instead His own.
He tries to build God's kingdom up
By putting self on throne.

Still the cross stands lifted up
Above a world of sin,
And Jesus stands with arms outstretched
To call the people in.

The church of bricks may come and go
And fall because of pride,
But those who love their Lord remaim
Upon their knees inside.

An empty cross stands high above
A church where Christ can dwell
Those He loves are safe inside
Untouched by man or hell.
