Prayer for Humility

"Dear Lord and Saviour, please help me to form a right relationship with You. I, like Eve, tend to want to exalt my ideas and opinions above your ideas and opinions, and I need help. Please help me keep my attention fixed on You rather than on trying to exalt myself, for you are God and I am but a child of dust whom you created. I tend to get in the way of your plans being worked out by my focus on myself rather than on You. Forgive me Lord. What You have called me to do is entirely in Your hands , not mine. Let not my human pride turn the focus upon myself to believe I am better than those around me who are also called by You. Help me to keep my priorities in order and to see the truth about You and my relationship to you. Remove all attempts to justify my sin before You, and let me see myself as you see me. As I see myself as your child, I will be better able to understand my subjection to your authority over me as my Father, One whom I can love, respect and honour because you are a God who is alive today and forever. I, whom you created, do not have the right to question your motives because your ways are higher than my ways and your thoughts higher than my thoughts. Forgive me when I expect You to pour out blessings upon me while my heart is filled with self. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in me. Help me to see the truth about myself, and forgive me for coming to you presuming you must answer my selfish prayers. When I get my relationship with you put right, then I know you will forgive my sins and I am pure and holy before you, a king and priest in your royal household.

"You said IF I confess my sins and IF I walk in the light of your presence I would remain covered by your blood. Only in your presence can I find peace. Only in your presence can I find joy. Only in your presence can I feel Your love.

"So, as I move out in these last days to do your work according to your command, let all glory be to You and not to me. Are You not God, and I a mere human who must not touch your glory? Please help me to get rid of all my selfishness and walk in Your ways then I need never again condemn myself because you said, "There is no condemnation on those who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. I am yours and You are mine. Not to me, O Lord, but to Thee, O Lord, all praise must be! Help me to love you more, then I can love those around me with your love, and do the work you have called me to do! With my eyes fixed on You, the Author and Finisher of my faith, I will stand firm even if those around me fall. Help me keep my priorities straight."
